Turning the negative into positive!
In October 2021, during the peak of the Covid housing market craze, I came home to a note on my door from a realtor. It was the first I’d heard that my landlord planned to sell the house. I spoke with my landlord right away, and he assured me I had until at least the end of December to find a new place. He also said his realtor would help me secure a rental. But with five dogs and a cat, I knew finding a pet-friendly home would be nearly impossible. Prices had skyrocketed, and most rentals had strict no-pet policies. No matter how hard I looked, nothing seemed like a viable option.
Then, at the end of October, everything changed. My landlord stop by to tell me he had accepted an offer on the house and that I had just three weeks to move out. The new owners wanted to be settled in before Thanksgiving. His attitude shifted drastically. He started making threats, accusing me of “squatting” in his home—even though I had never missed my $2,000 rent payment. Things escalated when he threatened to “send his men” to remove me from the property.
I refused to let him bully me out of my home before the deadline we had agreed on. I filed paperwork with the sheriff’s department to stop him from showing up unannounced and harassing me while I packed. From that point forward, he could only contact me through his lawyer.
With time running out and no affordable pet-friendly rentals, I made a huge decision. I sold as much as I could, put the rest in storage, and prepared for a new way of life. By mid-December, I had packed up my entire crew—five dogs, a cat, and myself—into a 21-foot RV and hit the road.
This moment would mark the beginning of our RVing adventure. What started as a desperate move turned into a life-changing journey.
